However, switching to chain wax not only requires time, but also the right equipment and know-how. This is exactly where our all-inclusive chain wax service comes in: You benefit from all the advantages of a waxed chain without having to invest time or money in expensive equipment and the complex waxing process.

Step 1:

After your order

After you place your order, we will send you everything you need to send your chain for our waxing service: a return envelope, a return label and a bag for the clean transport of your chain.

If you have ordered additional tools (such as chain link pliers ), these will be included.

If you have ordered a new chain link , we will send it back together with your waxed chain - after all, you want it waxed too.

The envelope should be with you in 2-3 days.

Step 2:

Dismantle & ship chain

Dismantle your chain and place it in the plastic bag. If you have a reusable chain lock, please place it in the bag as well.

Seal the return envelope and take the shipment to a post office, DHL Packstation or drop it in a mailbox.

Please also remember to thoroughly clean and degrease the derailleur pulleys, cassette and chainrings. Commercial brake cleaner is best for this. It is important that everything is free of oil at the end.

Step 3:

Growing your chain

After receiving your chain, we first measure the wear. We then degrease your chain in a multi-stage process and clean it in an ultrasonic bath.

Now comes the most important part: Your chain is treated in the hot wax bath with hot wax from Cyclowax. We monitor the temperature meticulously throughout the entire process. First, the wax is heated to 90° and applied for 10 minutes. Then we let the wax cool down and remove the chain at the best time. This is how we achieve the best result.

Finally, we let your chain cool down for at least 2 hours.

Step 4:

Returning your necklace

After your necklace has cooled down, we will carefully pack it and send it back to you.

Now all you have to do is install your new chain and run it in for about 50 kilometers. During this time, the chain may sound a little louder and small pieces of wax may come off - this is completely normal.

For in-between care and occasional regrowth, especially after long rides in wet conditions, we recommend treating the chain with liquid wax .

Which chain wax do you use?

For our chain waxing service we only use hot wax from Cyclowax . You can choose between the Basic Wax and the Performance Wax.

What else do I have to do myself?

To ensure that your freshly waxed bicycle chain can reach its full potential, it is important that you also remove any oil or grease from the other drive components. You should carefully clean and degrease the pulleys, chainrings and cassette so that the chain wax can work optimally. A standard brake cleaner is ideal for this - the main thing is that all parts are completely oil-free. This way you can ensure that waxing the bicycle chain contributes to less friction and a smooth ride in the long term.

How long does the whole process take?

Our chain waxing service usually takes about 5-7 days, including shipping. The longest part is shipping.

There may be small delays during periods of high volume, holidays or weekends - but don't worry! We'll do our best to ensure that you have your freshly waxed chain back in your hands as quickly as possible and can enjoy the best riding experience!

How do I clean my waxed chain?

Say goodbye to chain cleaners. To care for a waxed chain, simply run the chain through a clean, dry microfiber cloth. Light dirt can be removed effortlessly, or simply washed off like the rest of the bike. However, make sure to always rub the chain thoroughly dry after riding in the rain or washing the bike, as the wax makes the entire drive system more susceptible to corrosion.

If your drive starts to get louder, then it's time to refresh the wax layer on your chain. This works really well with liquid wax . Alternatively, you can send us your chain for re-waxing.

My chain is louder than usual. What can I do?

If your freshly waxed chain runs louder immediately after installation, this is completely normal - you first need to run the chain in for about 50 kilometers.

When installing your chain, please pay attention to the direction of rotation, as some chains are directional. The same applies to jockey wheels. If installed the wrong way round, annoying noises and improper shifting can occur.

If the chain is still too loud after running in, it may be that not all components have been completely freed of old oil.

Chain wax vs. chain oil. Which is better?

Chain wax scores with a clean, efficient driving experience: It reduces friction, minimizes wear and keeps dirt away.

Chain oil, on the other hand, has to be applied more frequently and attracts significantly more dirt, which means additional maintenance effort.

A small disadvantage of chain wax is the initial treatment - the first waxing is a bit more time-consuming, but we'll take care of that for you! You should also wipe the waxed chain dry after riding in the rain, as it is more susceptible to corrosion when wet.
